Staking a placer claim

In BC you stake placer claims online by clicking grid cells in Mineral Titles Online — no posts in the ground.

1. Free Miner Certificate — free if you're 65+ (otherwise $25). Required to hold a claim.
2. Business BCeID — proven once at a Service BC / FrontCounter office.
3. Open the Placer map on MTO and find your open cell(s) — toggle "Placer claim grid" here to preview them, and "Live tenure" to confirm it's still open.
4. Click the cell(s) → pay $5 / hectare → instant email confirmation.

Note: BC's 2025 framework requires First Nations consultation on new claims, so a claim may go through a review step before it's granted.
